White Medicine – What Does It Mean?
I’m back at it. Well sort of. I plan to post Thankful Thursday somewhat regularly. As many will notice I have changed the look of the blog. I have removed many links and may remove more yet. For the time being the old posts and categories will remain, however THE PONY EXPRESSION will be dedicated to gratitude, messages from the Red Road and White Medicine. The subjects may cover sustainability, horses, family, life in Silverton, friendships, travels, locavore, and more. Foremost though White Medicine will be our guide.
Some of you may question why Medicine Bear ( the horse) has been incorporated into the header of THE PONY EXPRESSION? Here is my explanation Those of you who have followed my horse life for the past two years will understand. Medicine Bear changed my life, turning it upside down. He caused the innitial injury to Kindlewood that ultimately brought her life to an untimely end. There was deceit involved with the acquisition of Medicine Bear. He damaged my property. He cost me a great deal of my financial reserves. On the other side of the scale he taught me about a higher intelligence, he was a symbol of the Old Iberian breed-type now gone extinct. Medicine Bear changed my outlook on the Spanish Mustang, Spanish Colonial, Spanish Barb orwhat have you breed. He was not a purebred. He was a magnificent horse. He changed my life utterly through his presence. If it were not for Medicine Bear I would not be living in Silverton, I would not be experiencing the wonders of this country called Colorado, United States of America.

A rainbow back in the canyon taken from Heather and Malcolms back yard.
His medicine shattered the past and left only one path to walk down. The path to the future. My life is happy, serene, peaceful. I feel fulfilled. I have met wonderful people, have left wonderful people behind. There is a soft warm kindness to my life now.
This is my Thankful Thursday. I am thankful that Medicine Bear brought White Medicine into my life, cleansing it of the past no matter how painful or how futile or senseless the process was. His presence in my life thrust me into this new magical place called Silverton. Watch out for Powerful Medicine, you’ll never know from where it will come or where it will send you.
For me it has come in the form of a horse named Medicine Bear, Silverton’s Mountains, and Thunder.

The Grenadiers snowcapped during what we call “The Colors” or falls turning of the leaves.

Sultan Mountain with Silverton nestled sleepily at its feet.
It has cleansed my spirit, opened my eyes and ultimately brought utter peace and joy to my heart.
Thank you for this gift of White Medicine.

I’m deeply moved by your post, and feel grateful for the direction life has taken you since the pain and turmoil of D/E changed life as you’d planned it. We lost another one yesterday. See my FB page. Best to you.

Thank you Terry. I read about the pretty boy who passed. I was going to comment but couldn’t come up with the words. How senseless. But he was loved and that’s all that matters in the long run. That and finding a treatment for D/E and stopping the breeding.
